Hailstorm and rain damage crops, orchards in Shangla
A hailstorm and heavy rain hit Shangla on Monday, damaging crops, orchards and trees in several areas. The weather also caused water levels to rise in local streams and disrupted travel on some routes.

SHANGLA: Stormy rain and a severe hailstorm swept through parts of Shangla district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, damaging standing crops, orchards and trees while bringing a sharp drop in temperatures across the valley, according to local reports.
Both upper and lower parts of the district were affected by sudden strong winds followed by heavy rain and intense hail. The abrupt change in weather disrupted farming activity and caused losses for cultivators in the area.
Local farmers said the hailstorm hit a range of crops, vegetables and fruit orchards. In several localities, branches of trees were also damaged because of the force of the hail and winds, adding to concerns among residents about further agricultural losses if similar weather continues.
After the downpour, water levels in local streams, natural springs and rivers rose significantly, creating difficulties for commuters in some areas. Increased water flow and the accumulation of rainwater also disrupted movement on certain routes.
Even as the storm caused damage, the weather turned cooler and more pleasant after the rain, offering relief from the recent heat spell. Residents welcomed the noticeable fall in temperature, while cool winds improved conditions across the district. In upper parts of Shangla, colder weather returned, leading people to bring out warm clothing again after several days of heat.
Residents and farmers urged the relevant authorities to immediately assess the losses caused by the hailstorm and take practical steps to provide compensation and relief to those affected.
