SWABI: A new laboratory equipped with modern diagnostic facilities has been inaugurated at Bacha Khan Medical Complex MTI in Swabi, according to officials and hospital representatives.

The facility has been set up above the teaching hospital’s new emergency block. Former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Labour Minister Faisal Khan Tarkai jointly inaugurated the laboratory by cutting the ribbon at a ceremony attended by UNICEF K-P Health Team Lead Dr Inamullah, members of the hospital administration, MTI Swabi board member Dr Tufail Muhammad and other guests.

Hospital Director Dr Khalid Masood briefed the visiting delegation on the laboratory’s services, saying it had been equipped with key modern diagnostic sections including microbiology, haematology, histopathology, TB culture and other advanced testing facilities. After the inauguration, the delegation toured different sections of the laboratory, where Head of the Pathology Department Prof Dr Nazish Babar and her team gave detailed briefings on the services available there.

A spokesperson said the laboratory was built with Rs60 million in funds provided by Asad Qaiser. The spokesperson added that modern operation theatres had also been inaugurated at the hospital earlier and said the new facility was expected to serve not only Swabi residents but also people from nearby districts.

According to the spokesperson, a solar power system has been installed to help ensure uninterrupted operations. The laboratory also includes a fully operational blood bank, a microbiology department, automated analysers and trained staff.

Plans are also under way to establish sample collection points in different areas. The spokesperson said advanced testing services including Hb electrophoresis, bone marrow analysis, TB culture and histopathology would be introduced soon.

At the ceremony, Faisal Khan Tarkai and Asad Qaiser assured the hospital administration of their continued support for further improvements at the facility.
