Murad calls markhor a symbol of national pride
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the markhor represents Pakistan’s national pride, heritage and identity. In his World Markhor Day message, he called for sustained efforts to protect the species from hunting, climate change and habitat loss.

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has described the markhor as a symbol of Pakistan’s national pride, natural heritage and identity, and said protecting the species is essential for wildlife conservation, environmental balance and future generations.
In a message issued on World Markhor Day, Shah said the animal faces serious threats from illegal hunting, climate change and the destruction of natural habitats. He said these challenges require collective and sustained efforts to address.
The chief minister said the Sindh government remains committed to wildlife protection and to promoting environment-friendly policies across the province. He added that the markhor is not only Pakistan’s national animal but also reflects strength, resilience and the country’s rich natural heritage.
Shah said wildlife protection also contributes to tourism, supports the local economy and helps maintain ecological balance. He said World Markhor Day serves as a reminder of the shared responsibility to protect natural resources and wildlife for future generations.
