Two minor siblings killed after being struck by train in Layyah
Two minor brothers were killed after being hit by a train in Layyah on Wednesday, according to Rescue 1122. The incident sparked protests by local residents demanding fencing along the railway tracks.

LAHORE: Two young brothers with physical disabilities were killed after being struck by a train in Layyah district on Wednesday, according to Rescue 1122.
Rescue officials identified the children as four-year-old Azan and three-year-old Arsalan, sons of Sultan. The incident took place near Jamman Shah on Kot Addu Road in the Veghi Wala Bund area of Layyah, where both children were hit by the train.
Rescue 1122 teams reached the site after receiving information about the accident and recovered the bodies of the two children from the railway track. Police also arrived at the scene, completed legal formalities and later handed over the bodies to the family.
Layyah Rescue 1122 media coordinator Waseem Hayat said the incident left the area in grief. Following the accident, a large number of local residents gathered at the site and staged a protest against the administration, demanding that barbed wire be installed along the railway tracks.
Residents protest after incident
The deaths triggered anger among people in the area, who blamed the lack of protective fencing around the railway line. The protest took place at the scene where the children were killed, with residents calling on the authorities to take preventive measures.
The latest incident adds to a series of train-related fatalities reported in Punjab. Earlier this year, a teenage girl died after being hit by a train in Lahore’s Kahna area. Last year, another boy was killed in a similar accident near Sara-i-Alamgir in Gujrat district.
Railway accidents continue to be reported
Incidents involving trains and pedestrians continue to surface from different parts of Punjab and other areas of the country. According to Pakistan Railways data cited in the report, 537 railway accidents were recorded over the past five years.
Of these, 313 involved deaths or serious injuries. The data also identified unsafe crossings as one of the major causes behind such accidents.
The Layyah tragedy has once again drawn attention to safety concerns around railway tracks, particularly in areas where residents say protective barriers are missing. The deaths of the two brothers prompted both mourning and public protest, as local people pressed the administration for action aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
