KASUR: A man was allegedly killed by his son in the Sarai Mughal area of Kasur district following a dispute over family land, police said on Wednesday, adding that the suspect had been arrested.
According to police, the incident occurred in Oplan Wala village, where Shahadat Ali was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged tool by his elder son, Owais. Police said the victim worked in the irrigation department and lived in the village with his family.
Police said Shahadat Ali was the father of three sons and a daughter, while his sons were engaged in farming. Local residents told investigators that he was regarded as a hardworking member of the family who, besides his government employment, also helped run household affairs.
Dispute over land
Investigators said the father and son had been at odds for a long period over the division of family land. According to police, Owais had repeatedly demanded his share, while Shahadat Ali wanted to retain the disputed property for the future needs of his other sons and grandchildren.
Police said the disagreement had continued for months and had led to repeated arguments within the household. On the day of the incident, investigators said, Owais was allegedly marking the disputed land with a farming tool when his father arrived there and tried to stop him.
An argument then broke out between the two, after which the suspect allegedly assaulted his father multiple times, police said. Shahadat Ali suffered serious injuries and fell at the scene, while the suspect fled, according to the investigation.
Victim died during treatment
Family members and residents shifted the injured man to the Rural Health Centre Halla. Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Pattoki, where he died during treatment, police said.
Police registered a case after receiving a complaint from the deceased's son, Shahid Ali, and began an investigation. They later said the suspect had been taken into custody.
