ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Parliament on Wednesday unanimously reaffirmed the country’s “iron-clad” and “all-weather” partnership with China as both the Senate and National Assembly passed separate resolutions marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two longstanding allies.
The resolutions, adopted unanimously in both Houses, paid glowing tribute to the historic friendship between Pakistan and China, describing bilateral ties as time-tested, deeply rooted and strengthened through decades of mutual trust, strategic cooperation and unwavering support on each other’s core interests.
In the Senate, the resolution was moved by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who recalled with “deep pride and profound satisfaction” the enduring friendship between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the People’s Republic of China.
The Upper House noted that the Pakistan-China relationship had been nurtured through the wisdom of successive generations of leadership and the enduring goodwill of the peoples of both countries.
The resolution stated that the fraternal relationship — founded on mutual trust, respect, shared aspirations and a common commitment to peace, stability, development and prosperity — had withstood every test despite shifting regional and international dynamics.
It lauded China’s steadfast support to Pakistan on issues concerning its core national interests, including sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security and economic development.
The Senate also reaffirmed Pakistan’s unequivocal support to China on issues concerning Beijing’s core interests and reiterated Islamabad’s firm adherence to the One-China policy, declaring Taiwan an inalienable part of Chinese territory.
The resolution further expressed Pakistan’s support for China on matters relating to Xinjiang, Xizang, Hong Kong and the South China Sea.
The House welcomed growing parliamentary and inter-parliamentary exchanges between the two countries and expressed the desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the spirit of dialogue, mutual understanding and regional peace.
It also reaffirmed full support for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, describing the flagship project as vital for shared prosperity, socio-economic development and long-term regional connectivity.
The Senate pledged to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties in a “befitting and dignified manner” and vowed to carry forward the Pakistan-China friendship from generation to generation.
