TURBAT: A Counter-Terrorism Department official was killed after unidentified armed men attacked him in Turbat, police said, in the latest in a series of attacks targeting law enforcement personnel in Balochistan.

According to police, the incident occurred in the Dashti Bazar area of Turbat. After the attack, police and other law enforcement agencies sealed off the area and began an investigation. Authorities also launched a search operation in the surrounding locality.

Police said the body was moved to Teaching Hospital Turbat to complete legal formalities.

Recent attack on woman constable

The killing comes days after police constable Shakeelah was shot dead in Turbat on Saturday. She was travelling on a motorcycle with her husband and child when armed men targeted her near Apsar Research Farm, according to police. She was heading to perform court duty at the time of the attack.

A police official in Turbat described the aftermath of that incident.

“The lady constable died on the spot as she suffered multiple bullet injuries, while her husband and child were injured in the firing,” a police official in Turbat said.

Police had said Shakeelah was killed at the scene, while her husband and child sustained injuries in the shooting.

Earlier attacks in Balochistan

The latest incident also follows attacks reported in late April in Kachhi and Noshki districts, where one policeman was martyred and four others were injured in assaults on two police stations in the province.

According to police officials, unidentified armed assailants riding motorcycles attacked the Dhadar police station, using rockets and grenades. Police personnel deployed there took defensive positions and returned fire, officials said.

The attack on the CTD official in Turbat adds to concerns over repeated assaults on police and security personnel in different parts of Balochistan. Police have said an investigation into the latest killing is under way, while search efforts were launched in the area after the shooting.

No further details about the identity of the slain CTD official or the attackers were provided in the police account cited in the report.
