Madonna, Shakira and BTS to headline first-ever FIFA World Cup halftime show

NEW JERSEY: FIFA has officially announced the first-ever halftime show for a FIFA World Cup final, and the lineup is already sending the internet into meltdown.

Music icons Madonna, Shakira and K-pop supergroup BTS are set to headline the historic performance during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium on July 19.

According to FIFA, Chris Martin will curate the halftime spectacle, marking a major shift toward a Super Bowl-style entertainment format for football’s biggest tournament.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino described the event as a celebration of music, football, and global unity, adding that the show will also support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund aimed at improving access to education and football opportunities for children worldwide.

The 2026 tournament, hosted jointly by United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the largest World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches.

Fans online immediately reacted to the announcement, with many calling the lineup “chaotic in the best way possible,” while others joked that FIFA had officially entered its “main pop girl era.”

The move follows FIFA’s growing focus on entertainment-driven presentations after last year’s Club World Cup in North America featured performances by artists including Doja Cat, J Balvin and Tems.
