Kundi offers talks with Sindh over wheat supply

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said the province is facing serious difficulties in wheat supply and offered to engage with the Sindh government on the movement of wheat to K-P, provided Punjab allows transit.

He made the remarks while addressing the Baniyan-e-Marsous and Stability of Pakistan Conference at the Governor’s House in Peshawar, where religious scholars as well as political and social figures from across the country were in attendance.

According to the governor, K-P is currently dealing with major wheat-related challenges. In that context, he said he was prepared to hold talks with the Sindh government regarding wheat consignments for the province, but added that such an arrangement would depend on Punjab granting passage.

During his speech, Kundi also spoke about the broader theme of the conference and said Baniyan-e-Marsous represents iron-clad unity, discipline and national strength. He said the country at present needs unity and national solidarity more than ever.

The governor said national stability should be viewed in a wider framework, arguing that military strength by itself is not sufficient and that political and economic steadiness are equally important for the country.

Conference focus on unity and stability

The event at the Governor’s House brought together participants from different segments of society, including religious scholars and political and social leaders from various parts of the country. The conference centred on the idea of national cohesion and the importance of stability in Pakistan.

Kundi’s remarks linked the issue of wheat supply with a wider call for unity and coordinated action. His comments indicated a willingness to pursue inter-provincial engagement on the matter of wheat shipments, while also underlining that any such move would require cooperation on transit.

He said the symbolism of Baniyan-e-Marsous was especially relevant in the current circumstances, as it reflected discipline, collective strength and solidarity. He stressed that Pakistan’s present needs go beyond security considerations alone and include political and economic stability as essential components.

No further details were provided at the conference regarding the proposed talks with Sindh or the mechanism through which wheat shipments could be arranged. However, the governor’s statement made clear that he sees inter-provincial coordination as necessary in addressing the wheat supply situation facing Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The conference concluded with an emphasis on national unity, with Kundi reiterating that solidarity and stability remain central to Pakistan’s needs at this stage.
