LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Sunday said telecommunications and technology had emerged as some of the most powerful tools of the modern era, stressing that telecommunication was no longer merely a means of communication but a gateway to progress, innovation and new opportunities.
In her message on World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, the chief minister said the Punjab government was fully committed to building a “Digital Punjab” and paving the way for an educational and technological revolution across the province.
She said the introduction of 5G digital telecommunication would prove to be a game-changing development for Punjab as well as the entire country, adding that rapid advancement in telecommunication technology was essential to harness the full potential of artificial intelligence (AI).
Maryam Nawaz noted that Punjab had already made significant strides in e-governance and e-business through the effective use of modern telecommunication technologies.
“Every student has a laptop in hand and we are connecting them with the world through innovation in telecommunications,” she said, highlighting the government’s efforts to digitally empower the youth.
The chief minister further said that regular training programmes were being conducted to equip young people with the skills required to compete in international IT and telecommunication markets.
She expressed confidence that the establishment of Nawaz Sharif IT City would usher in revolutionary improvements in the communication and technology sectors, transforming Punjab into a major regional hub for innovation and digital connectivity.
Maryam Nawaz added that the government’s vision was to make telecommunications not only a source of convenience but also a driving force for transformation, transparency, economic growth and sustainable development.
