LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday arrived in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, along with a high-level delegation, where she was accorded a warm welcome upon her arrival.
Deputy Minister for Defence Industry Mehman Bakhshiyev received the chief minister and her delegation at Baku Airport.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov and his wife, along with Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin and his wife, were also present to welcome the visiting delegation.
During her three-day official visit, the chief minister will be the guest of honour of the Government of Azerbaijan. She is scheduled to meet Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on May 17.
She will also represent Pakistan at the World Urban Forum in Baku and is set to address the World Leaders Summit at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

Maryam Nawaz will present Punjab’s flagship housing initiative “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” at the global forum, showcasing the province’s affordable housing model to international participants. The initiative will be highlighted as part of Punjab’s efforts in innovative urban development.

A senior delegation is accompanying the chief minister, including Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Information Minister Azma Bukhari, Housing Minister Bilal Yasin, Sports Minister Faisal Ayub, Agriculture Minister Ashiq Hussain Kirmani and Special Assistant Ali Dar.
The chief minister’s visit marks a significant international engagement as the Punjab government seeks to strengthen cooperation in urban development and highlight its flagship governance and housing initiatives on the global stage.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also paid tribute to Lady Constable Shakeela, who was martyred in a terrorist attack.
She expressed deep sympathy with the bereaved family and said the nation was proud of the sacrifice of Balochistan’s daughter.
The chief minister also prayed for the early recovery of the injured husband and son of the martyred constable.
