Governor proposes single-country expos to promote Pakistani furniture exports

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has proposed holding a series of single-country Made-in-Pakistan exhibitions in different parts of the world, saying such events could help expand the reach of Pakistani products in international markets and strengthen their export prospects.

The governor made the remarks on Friday during a meeting with a delegation of furniture manufacturers led by Pakistan Furniture Council Chief Executive Officer Mian Kashif Ashfaq.

During the meeting, Khan said Pakistan had substantial industrial and creative capacity, particularly in the furniture sector, which he said was capable of generating foreign exchange for the country. He said Pakistani furniture was earning recognition for quality workmanship, refined designs and the use of durable materials.

He said the domestic furniture industry could compete effectively in overseas markets if it received better marketing avenues, access to modern technology and policy-level backing.

Call for public-private cooperation

The governor also stressed the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors to support industrial expansion and boost exports. He said exclusive Made-in-Pakistan exhibitions in different countries would provide an opportunity to showcase high-quality Pakistani goods, especially furniture, handicrafts and home decor products, to foreign buyers and investors.

Khan praised the Pakistan Furniture Council for its efforts to advance the sector through exhibitions, training initiatives and awareness programmes. He also assured the delegation of his full support for steps aimed at increasing exports and easing the way for local manufacturers.

Speaking on the occasion, Mian Kashif Ashfaq said the furniture industry was making an important contribution to the national economy and creating jobs for thousands of skilled workers and artisans across the country.

He said the sector's role extended beyond manufacturing, as it also supported livelihoods for a large number of craftsmen. The discussion focused on ways to improve the industry's visibility abroad and create stronger opportunities for Pakistani furniture makers in foreign markets.

The governor's remarks highlighted the view that targeted international exhibitions could serve as a platform for introducing Pakistani-made products to a wider audience while helping connect local producers with overseas investors and buyers.

The meeting also underscored the significance being attached to the furniture sector as an export-oriented industry with room for further growth if supported through promotion, technology and policy measures.
