Tailor’s daughter from Haripur makes history with 17 gold medals in MBBS

A student from Haripur has made history at Khyber Girls Medical College after securing a record-breaking 17 gold medals in the MBBS programme.

Qandeel Murtaza, the daughter of a tailor, earned widespread praise for her exceptional academic performance during the institution’s 2026 convocation ceremony in Peshawar.

Videos circulating on social media showed Sohail Afridi presenting the medals to Qandeel while her father proudly stood beside her during the ceremony.

Her achievement is being described as the highest number of gold medals ever secured by a student in the history of the college.

Other top-performing graduates were also honoured at the event, including Muqaddas, who received 10 gold medals, and Sabeeh, who took home seven.

Speaking to the media, Qandeel’s father shared details about the family’s educational accomplishments. He revealed that one of Qandeel’s sisters is currently studying at Khyber Medical College, while another serves as a Grade-17 officer in the Federal Investigation Agency.

He further said that a third daughter holds a PhD and works in Islamabad, while their son is an engineering graduate.

Qandeel’s success has drawn admiration online, with many praising her determination, academic excellence, and the sacrifices made by her family to support education.
