Youth allegedly poisoned to death in Shakargarh

SHAKARGARH: A man was allegedly poisoned to death in the Peoples Colony area of Shakargarh on Thursday, while police said an investigation was under way and some suspects, including a woman, had reportedly been taken into custody for questioning.

According to SHO City Police Station Shakargarh Naveed Warraich, the deceased was identified as Shahid Hayat. Police said he had been staying at a relative’s house for the past several days before the incident.

As stated in the First Information Report registered at City Police Station Shakargarh, the complainant, Zeeshan Hayat, told police that his brother Shahid Hayat regularly visited the house of his maternal uncle, Pervez Ahmed, in Peoples Colony and had been living there for the last few days.

The FIR said that on May 7 at around 10:55am, Zeeshan Hayat received a phone call from his cousin Pervez Ahmed, who informed him that Shahid’s condition had suddenly worsened and that he was being shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Zeeshan Hayat said he immediately went to the hospital along with his uncle Sarfraz Hayat and cousin Mustafa Gulzar. However, by the time they arrived, Shahid Hayat had already died, according to the complaint.

The complainant further alleged that when they reached the hospital, the suspects — identified as Pervez Ahmed, his daughter Anam Pervez and his wife Bushra Bibi — left the scene along with two unidentified individuals.

In his statement to police, Zeeshan Hayat accused the suspects of killing Shahid Hayat by allegedly giving him a poisonous substance over what he described as a dispute or personal grudge.

Police investigation under way

Police said the case was being investigated. Officials added that several suspects had reportedly been detained for questioning as part of the inquiry.

The incident took place in the Peoples Colony area of Shakargarh, and the case has been formally recorded at City Police Station Shakargarh on the complaint of the victim’s brother.
