Killing outside police station triggers reshuffle

RAWALPINDI: Police have registered a case over the killing of a suspect outside the main gate of Dhamial Police Station and later carried out a wider reshuffle in the city police setup following the incident and the broader law and order situation.

According to the first information report, the case was lodged on the complaint of the victim Wahab’s father, Mohammad Nadeem. The FIR names six suspects, while two others have not been identified.

The report states that Nauman Arif, Daniyal and two unidentified men were accused of directly opening fire on Wahab. It further says that Shafiq Jadun, Nabeel Arif, Umair Khan and Raja Ilyas were nominated on allegations of planning, facilitating and instigating the killing.

As stated in the FIR, Mohammad Nadeem had brought Wahab to appear before Dhamial police on Wednesday evening in connection with a murder case. When they reached near a school close to the police station, four armed men riding two motorcycles allegedly arrived and opened fire on Wahab.

Police said Wahab suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen, arm, legs and lower back and was critically injured in the attack. He later died of his injuries.

Police have registered the case and said efforts are under way to arrest those nominated in the FIR. The investigation is continuing from different angles. No arrest had been made so far.

Police changes after incident

Following a worsening crime situation in the city and the target killing outside Dhamial Police Station, Rawalpindi police carried out large-scale transfers and postings.

Police authorities issued fresh appointments after replacing station house officers at six police stations.

The killing took place outside a police station where the victim had been brought for appearance in a separate murder case, making the incident particularly significant for the local police administration. The registration of the FIR and the subsequent administrative changes came as police said they were pursuing the suspects and examining the case from multiple angles.

The FIR, as described in the report, separates the allegations between those accused of carrying out the shooting and those accused of having a supporting role in the attack. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, while police have yet to announce any arrests in the case.
