Policeman martyred in attack on post in Lakki Marwat

LAKKI MARWAT: A police constable was martyred after terrorists attacked a police post in the remote Shadikhel area of the Bittani subdivision in the early hours of Thursday, according to a police official.

The official said the assailants used advanced light and heavy weapons in an attempt to breach the post. He described the assault as a coordinated strike from multiple directions.

According to the official, a heavy exchange of fire continued for some time during the attack, and Constable Noorfanullah was martyred in the gunfight. He said the policemen responded effectively, frustrating what he described as the terrorists’ plan and forcing them to retreat.

The body of the martyred constable was later shifted to the police lines at the District Headquarters Complex Tajazai, where funeral prayers were offered with full official honours.

Those who attended the funeral included Deputy Commissioner Hameedullah Khan, District Police Officer Nazir Khan, SP Investigation Murad Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Habibullah Wazir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief & Human Rights) Sohail Ahmad Bukhari, Additional Assistant Commissioner Gohar Ali Khan, other officers from the police and line departments, and relatives of the deceased policeman.

A police contingent presented a guard of honour at the funeral, while officials from the district administration and police laid floral wreaths on the coffin.

DPO Nazir Khan paid tribute to the fallen constable and said the sacrifices made by police personnel were essential for maintaining peace in the area. "These supreme sacrifices of our law enforcers will not go in vain," he added.

He further added that police operations would continue until the last terrorist was eliminated.

Security review in Shadikhel

After the attack, the district police officer visited border police checkposts and checkpoints in the remote Shadikhel area of the tribal subdivision. During the visit, he met police officers and jawans who had taken part in the exchange and commended them for foiling the attackers’ attempt to take over the post.

The DPO praised the morale and professionalism of the personnel and said the district police were fully prepared to confront terrorism with resolve.

He also carried out a detailed review of security arrangements, duty management and the resources available at the checkposts. During the visit, he issued instructions aimed at further strengthening and tightening security measures.

The incident is the latest attack targeting police in Lakki Marwat, where security personnel have faced repeated militant violence in recent weeks.
