MANSEHRA: Five people lost their lives and six others were injured in two separate road accidents in Mansehra on Thursday, according to officials.
A Rescue 1122 official said emergency teams moved the dead and injured to nearby medical facilities after the incidents. “We shifted the dead and injured to nearby health facilities after the incidents,” a Rescue 1122 official told reporters.
Three killed in Hazara Expressway collision
The first accident took place near Shatay Interchange on the Hazara Expressway in the Dodial area, where two vehicles collided head-on at high speed.
Rescue teams reached the site and transported the injured to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital. Doctors later pronounced three of them dead.
Rescuers said all three deceased were residents of the Janu Mundi area of Shinkiari. After medico-legal formalities were completed, the bodies were handed over to their families.
Pickup crashes into tree in College Doraha area
In the second incident, a speeding pickup vehicle hit a roadside tree in the College Doraha area, injuring several passengers.
Rescue workers shifted the injured to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, where two of them succumbed to their injuries. Six other passengers were discharged after receiving emergency treatment.
Officials said the pickup had been travelling from Baffa to Mansehra when the driver lost control of the steering, causing the vehicle to veer off and crash into the tree.
Police have registered first information reports in connection with both accidents and have started investigations to determine their exact causes.
The two incidents added to concerns over road safety in the district, where high-speed travel and loss of vehicle control were cited in the accidents reported on Thursday. The victims and injured were taken to health facilities soon after the crashes, and hospital staff at King Abdullah Teaching Hospital treated those brought in by rescue teams.
Officials said inquiries were under way to establish the circumstances surrounding both accidents. In the Hazara Expressway crash, the collision involved two vehicles, while in the second case, the pickup struck a tree after the driver reportedly lost control.
