Punjab holds first tourism and investment expo in Lahore

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Tuesday organised what it described as its first comprehensive tourism showcase, the Magnificent Punjab Tourism & Investment Expo 2026, in Lahore, bringing together stakeholders from the public and private sectors to promote tourism as an important contributor to economic growth in the province.

The event was arranged by the Punjab Tourism Department and was presented as a step towards projecting Punjab as a competitive destination in the global tourism market. According to the official account of the event, the expo brought the province’s heritage, culture, spiritual routes, eco-tourism locations and investment-ready projects onto a single platform.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the event marked a major occasion for the province, calling it a historic moment for Punjab. She said it was the first time that the province’s varied tourism assets had been showcased in a unified and organised way before investors and international partners.

"This is not just an expo. This is Punjab opening its doors to the world," she said, adding that tourism had grown into a major economic sector with a role in job creation, foreign investment and national branding.

Tourism positioned as economic sector

The provincial government used the expo to underline its broader effort to place tourism at the centre of economic planning. Officials said the initiative was aimed at encouraging both domestic and international interest in Punjab’s tourism potential while also creating opportunities for investment in related sectors.

According to officials, more than 50 curated tourism trails and destinations have been prepared for promotion under public-private partnership models. These routes and sites are intended to support the province’s effort to attract investors and visitors by offering a more structured presentation of Punjab’s tourism assets.

The showcase brought together a range of participants linked to tourism and investment, reflecting the government’s attempt to build coordination between state institutions and private stakeholders. The province’s authorities said the expo was designed to highlight multiple segments of tourism, including historical and cultural attractions, spiritual travel routes, eco-tourism destinations and projects considered ready for investment.

Unified presentation of tourism assets

The event was described by the government as a milestone in its campaign to market Punjab more effectively in international tourism and investment circles. By placing different tourism offerings under one umbrella, the authorities sought to present a consolidated image of the province’s potential.

Aurangzeb said the showcase represented the first structured effort to present Punjab’s tourism resources in a single forum to investors and international partners. Her remarks framed the initiative as part of a wider push to open the province to global engagement through tourism-led development.

Officials maintained that the expo was not limited to promotion alone, but was also linked to investment planning through projects identified as ready for private sector participation. The government said the tourism trails and destinations being promoted had been developed under public-private partnership models, signalling an effort to combine public facilitation with private investment.

The Lahore event therefore served both as a promotional platform and as a statement of the provincial government’s intention to use tourism as a vehicle for economic activity, employment generation and broader visibility for Punjab.
