'Minor altercation' spirals into scuffle at Narowal Medical College

NAROWAL: The administration of a private medical college in Narowal has issued its account of an incident at the girls’ hostel after reports and videos of an altercation circulated widely on social media, saying the situation was contained and normal conditions have been restored.

According to the college administration, the episode began with a minor dispute between junior students and final-year students in the hostel. Officials said the disagreement later developed into a physical confrontation.

The college administration said the matter was handled quickly after staff stepped in. In its version of events, officials said the situation was controlled after intervention by staff members, who acted to stop the students from injuring each other and to restore calm in the hostel.

A senior college official said immediate steps were taken when tensions started increasing, and efforts were made to ease the situation through discussions with students from both sides.

According to the administration, one student informed her family about the incident. After that, her father reportedly contacted the police helpline 15. College officials said police personnel responded to the call and arrived outside the hostel gate.

The administration said that while police reached the area outside, the situation inside the hostel remained under the supervision of the female warden and female security staff. Access had been restricted by closing the main gate as a precaution.

The hostel administration further said that only female wardens and female guards stayed inside the premises to manage the matter and to ensure the safety of students.

Responding to videos being shared online, college authorities said some of the footage was circulating without context and did not present the complete picture of what had happened.

The administration’s statement came after the incident drew attention on social media through videos and reports related to the altercation inside the girls’ hostel.
