PM’s daughter, son-in-law get interim bail in PPDC Corruption Case

LAHORE: A special central court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Rabia Imran and Imran Yousaf, daughter and son-in-law of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a corruption reference linked to the Punjab Power Development Company (PPDC).

Judge Ashfaq Ahmed heard the applications and directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) not to arrest the accused until May 7. Both Rabia Imran and Imran Yousaf appeared before the court and marked their attendance.

The case was originally filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which had accused the pair of involvement in alleged corruption within the PPDC. They had previously been declared proclaimed offenders in the reference.

Following amendments to accountability laws, the case was transferred from NAB to the FIA court. In the same reference, former PPDC chief financial officer Ikram Naveed had entered into a plea bargain.

Earlier, on August 7, 2018, an accountability court had declared Imran Yousaf a proclaimed offender after he failed to comply with arrest warrants issued during the NAB investigation. The order, issued by Judge Syed Najamul-Hassan Bukhari, came after authorities were unable to secure his arrest.

According to the allegations, Imran Yousaf received a bribe of Rs12 million from the former PPDC chief executive officer and played a role in facilitating the appointment of Ikram Naveed as CEO.

The court has now deferred further proceedings while granting temporary relief to the accused.
