QUETTA: Security forces killed five terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Noshki on Saturday, hours after coordinated attacks on police stations in Noshki and Kachhi districts of Balochistan.
According to security sources, militants first attacked a police station in the Dhadar area of Kachhi district late Friday night, hurling hand grenades and opening heavy fire. A police official, Suba Khan Bajkani, was martyred in the assault, while four others sustained injuries.
The attackers also set several police vehicles ablaze and damaged equipment at a nearby National Database Registration Authority office. Police returned fire, killing one attacker, while others managed to flee.
In a separate incident, armed militants opened fire on a police station in Noshki, injuring a police operator who was shifted to hospital for treatment.
Following the attacks, law enforcement agencies launched search operations. Acting on intelligence about militant presence on the outskirts of Noshki, security forces carried out a targeted operation late Saturday.
Officials said troops came under fire upon reaching the hideout, triggering an intense exchange that lasted several hours. Five militants were killed during the operation, and their hideout was destroyed.
Security forces recovered a large cache of weapons, including rocket launchers, explosives and communication equipment. The slain militants were reportedly involved in attacks on security personnel.
The area has since been cordoned off, with further search operations under way to eliminate remaining suspects.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the police and Counter-Terrorism Department for their response in Dhadar, commending their “bravery and professionalism” and reiterating the government’s resolve to eradicate terrorism.
