Punjab Police has developed a plan to introduce a mobile surveillance system to detect fake number plates, e-challan defaulters, and wanted individuals across the province.
Officials said the system will deploy specially equipped vehicles fitted with 360-degree cameras to monitor roads and public areas while in motion. The cameras will identify defaulter vehicles and wanted persons in real time and transmit alerts to enforcement teams.
The system will be integrated with the Safe Cities network, allowing instant data sharing and response coordination. Police said the cameras can capture and update data within a range of up to 100 metres and will also identify overloaded vehicles.
Authorities said electric vehicles will be used to reduce fuel consumption and operational costs. The first vehicle is expected to be ready next week and will be presented to the Punjab chief minister for approval.
The project is being completed under the supervision of Additional Inspector General Logistics and Procurement Fawaduddin Qureshi. After approval, the system will initially be deployed on selected roads in Lahore.
Police officials said one to three vehicles will be allocated to each district across Punjab for monitoring. The estimated cost of each vehicle, including equipment, is around Rs1.1 crore, with authorities stating the system is aimed at improving traffic enforcement and identifying violations more efficiently.
