Civil, military and community leaders at a grand jirga in Gwadar agreed to improve coordination to support peace and inclusive development in Balochistan. The meeting focused on Gwadar and the wider Makran Division.

GWADAR: Civil, military and community leaders on Thursday agreed to strengthen coordination between the government, security institutions and the public to promote lasting peace and inclusive development in Balochistan.
The grand jirga, held in Gwadar, brought together key stakeholders including Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, senior security officials including the Quetta corps commander, as well as tribal elders, business leaders and members of civil society.
Deliberations centred on the development of Makran Division and Gwadar, with participants highlighting the need for sustained collaboration and policy continuity.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Mandokhail said Balochistan’s progress depended on public participation, tribal harmony and consistency in government initiatives. He emphasised the need to empower women, youth and the local fishing community.
Chief Minister Bugti said the provincial government was accelerating development efforts, with Gwadar receiving special focus. He noted that many young people in Balochistan had been drawn into a “futile conflict” and stressed that expanding access to education was critical to steering them away from violence.
Quetta Corps Commander Rahat Naseem Ahmed Khan said security forces were taking all necessary steps to maintain peace and safeguard key projects, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
He described mutual trust between the public and security institutions as essential for sustainable peace in the province.
