Red liquid thrown at Reza Pahlavi during visit to Berlin

BERLIN: Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran’s last shah, was hit with red liquid during a visit to Germany on Thursday after an activist confronted him over his position on the war involving Iran.

The incident took place after Pahlavi left the Federal Press Conference in central Berlin and walked toward a waiting vehicle with security personnel.

The footage showed an activist approaching him and throwing the liquid, which struck the back of his neck and shoulders. Police then restrained the suspect and took the person into custody. Pahlavi subsequently entered his vehicle and left the area.

Incident followed press conference remarks

Earlier in the day, Pahlavi repeated his support for US and Israeli strikes on Iran during a press conference in Berlin. He described the military campaign as a humanitarian intervention that he said was needed to bring down the current Iranian regime.

"The targeting of the regime's infrastructure and its elements of coercion was absolutely something that the Iranian people actually called for", he told reporters at the press conference.

The confrontation in Berlin came after those remarks, with the activist challenging him over his stance on the war before throwing the red liquid.

Security response captured on video

Video from the scene showed the sequence of events as Pahlavi moved away from the venue. The liquid was seen landing on his upper back and neck area. Police officers quickly intervened, detained the suspect and removed the person from the scene.

Pahlavi did not remain at the location after the incident. He got into his car and departed shortly afterward.

Pahlavi as a controversial opposition figure living in exile. The episode in Berlin unfolded during a visit in which he had publicly backed the strikes on Iran and defended them in comments to journalists.
