ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad to formulate a joint strategy between the ministries of interior and defence aimed at improving airport operations and making travel easier for passengers.
The meeting reviewed steps for joint action to improve passenger facilitation at Islamabad airport as well as other airports across the country. It was decided that all relevant agencies would strengthen coordination as part of the effort.
Officials at the meeting approved the installation of advanced screening machinery to improve the checking process. Participants also agreed to set up joint counters and introduce a single-point checking mechanism intended to cut delays for travellers.
Progress on the installation of e-gates was also reviewed during the session.
Naqvi said the new arrangement would help reduce waiting times at airports and improve the overall passenger experience.
“A unified checking system on a single scanner will save significant time,” Naqvi noted, adding that better coordination among institutions is essential to reduce crowding and long queues at airports.
He also said the government wanted to provide improved travel facilities to the public.
“We are committed to offering the public modern, fast, and convenient travel facilities,” he said.

During the meeting, Defence Secretary Muhammad Ali informed participants that the latest machinery was being imported to protect aircraft from bird-related damage and possible accidents.

The proposed single-point checking system and joint counters are part of the broader plan discussed at the meeting to reduce congestion and improve efficiency for passengers at Islamabad and other airports.
The review of e-gates and the approval of advanced screening equipment formed part of the wider effort outlined in the meeting, which centred on modernising airport procedures while improving convenience for the travelling public.
