KCCI condemns shooting of industrialist in New Karachi

KARACHI: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has voiced grave concern over the shooting of an industrialist in New Karachi, saying the incident reflects a deteriorating law-and-order situation and the troubling return of organised extortion networks.

In a statement, KCCI President Rehan Hanif condemned the attack on Farzand Ali, who is a member of the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry. According to the chamber, Ali was shot by unidentified gunmen within the limits of the New Karachi police station.

The chamber said the industrialist suffered two bullet wounds in the attack. He was shifted to a nearby hospital, where his condition was reported to be critical.

Business community raises alarm

KCCI said the incident had caused serious concern in the business community, particularly at a time when traders and industrialists were already worried about security conditions. The chamber warned that the attack pointed to a worsening environment for business activity in the city.

Rehan Hanif said the shooting was deeply disturbing and linked the incident to what the chamber described as the re-emergence of organised extortion groups. The statement underscored the need for urgent attention to the law-and-order situation.

Farzand Ali’s association with the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry was also highlighted by the chamber as it condemned the attack and expressed concern over the implications for the wider industrial and trading community in Karachi.

The incident took place in New Karachi, where unidentified armed men opened fire on the industrialist. KCCI said he was immediately taken to hospital after sustaining two gunshot injuries.

The chamber’s statement focused on the security concerns arising from the attack and described the broader situation as alarming for the city’s business sector. It said the resurgence of organised extortion networks was a matter of serious worry.

The chamber called attention to the seriousness of the incident as Ali remained under treatment in critical condition. The shooting has added to concerns among industrialists and traders over safety and security in Karachi.

KCCI’s response centred on the immediate attack as well as the wider law-and-order implications it said were evident from the incident.
