China pledges deeper global cooperation, positions itself as driver of development

BEIJING: Top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi on Wednesday reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening international cooperation and playing a leading role in advancing global development.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 3rd High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development, Wang said China would take proactive steps to work with all partners to unlock new opportunities for global growth through practical collaboration.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, highlighted that this year marks the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (GDI).

He noted that over the past five years, the GDI has evolved from a Chinese proposal into a widely recognised international consensus, transitioning from a conceptual framework into tangible actions and cooperation projects.

According to Wang, the initiative has contributed fresh momentum to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, supporting measurable progress in global development efforts.

Emphasising China’s future direction, he said Beijing is ready to work with all countries to use the GDI as a platform for mobilising development resources, strengthening growth foundations, promoting peaceful development, and fostering an open and inclusive global economy.

Wang added that these efforts are aimed at advancing the vision of building a global community with a shared future.
