Pakistan Navy tests locally developed Taimoor air-launched cruise missile

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy has carried out a successful live weapon firing of the indigenously developed Taimoor air-launched cruise missile, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the military’s media wing said the Pakistan Navy had conducted the test of Taimoor, describing it as an anti-ship weapon system developed locally. The statement said the firing was conducted in what it called a powerful demonstration of precision strike capability and operational readiness.

"Pakistan Navy has conducted successful live weapon firing of Taimoor air-launched cruise missile — an indigenously developed Anti-Ship Weapon System — in a powerful demonstration of precision strike capability and operational readiness."

According to ISPR, the missile completed its assigned mission with a high degree of accuracy. The statement said the test validated the Pakistan Navy’s combat capability to detect, target and decisively neutralise enemy sea-based threats at extended ranges. "The cruise missile executed its mission with exceptional precision, validating Pakistan Navy’s combat capability to detect, target and decisively neutralise enemy sea-based threats at extended ranges," the military's media wing stated.

The military’s media wing said the successful firing represented a significant enhancement in the country’s defence capability. The test had reinforced the Pakistan armed forces’ multi-dimensional coordinated strike posture and capabilities in the conventional domain.

"Pakistan Navy stands resolute in its commitment to safeguard the nation’s maritime interests and sovereign waters," it added further.

ISPR said the president, the prime minister, the chief of defence forces and the services chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers on what it described as a significant milestone.

The latest test follows other recent naval weapons trials. On April 16, the Pakistan Navy successfully fired a locally developed anti-ship ballistic missile to engage targets at an extended range. Earlier, in January, the navy conducted what ISPR had described as a comprehensive exercise in the north Arabian Sea, during which it successfully fired a surface-to-air missile.

The statement did not provide further operational details about the latest firing, but presented the test as part of the navy’s broader effort to strengthen readiness and maritime defence capability.

The announcement adds to a series of recent disclosures by the military regarding locally developed naval weapon systems and related exercises.
