Bugti says better facilities for lawyers can strengthen justice system

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said on Monday that improved facilities for lawyers could help make the justice system more effective.

He made the remarks during a meeting in Quetta with a joint delegation comprising members of the Pakistan Bar Council and the Balochistan Bar Council, where matters concerning the legal community were discussed in detail.

The meeting reviewed the problems being faced by lawyers as well as welfare measures that are under way or under consideration. Officials briefed participants on a number of initiatives linked to lawyers’ welfare and professional support.

These included medical coverage for lawyers, the provision of subsidised chambers at Municipal Plaza, pink scooters, shuttle carts, buses and vans to improve mobility for lawyers, a digital library, and progress on the Lawyers Welfare Housing Scheme.

During the meeting, Bugti said the welfare of lawyers was among the provincial government’s foremost priorities and added that practical measures were being taken to address their concerns.

He said that improving facilities available to lawyers would further strengthen the judicial system.

Meeting focuses on lawyers’ welfare measures

The discussion brought together representatives of the Pakistan Bar Council and the Balochistan Bar Council with the provincial leadership to review issues affecting the legal fraternity in the province.

Officials informed the participants about multiple welfare-related steps, including healthcare support and transport facilities, as well as infrastructure and housing-related initiatives intended for lawyers.

The briefing also covered the status of the Lawyers Welfare Housing Scheme and the plan for a digital library, alongside transport arrangements such as shuttle carts, buses and vans. The provision of pink scooters and subsidised chambers at Municipal Plaza was also discussed as part of the broader package of facilities.

Bugti reiterated that the provincial government considered lawyers’ welfare a priority area and said efforts were being made in practical terms to resolve the issues raised by the community.

He linked the improvement of lawyers’ facilities with the broader functioning of the justice system, saying such steps could contribute to making it stronger and more effective.

The meeting centred on both existing and proposed initiatives, reflecting the government’s stated focus on addressing the needs of the legal community through welfare and support measures.
