Zayn Malik says he is recovering in hospital after illness delays fan event

LONDON: Singer Zayn Malik has said he is recovering in hospital after an illness forced the postponement of a planned fan appearance in Kingston in the United Kingdom, disrupting promotional activity linked to his newly released album Konnakol.

Malik, 33, shared the update on Instagram Stories on April 17, posting a photograph from a hospital bed and telling followers that he had gone through a difficult week. In his message, he thanked fans for their support and said he was disappointed to miss scheduled commitments.

"To my fans – thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always. Been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering," he wrote and added that he was heartbroken to miss the planned appearances.

Malik had been due to attend a one-night-only event in Kingston, where he was expected to present material from Konnakol. The session, organised by Banquet Records, was postponed at short notice after he fell ill. Organisers told ticket holders that new dates would be announced later.

Some fans had already travelled for the exclusive event, which was also set to feature a question-and-answer session and a preview of unreleased content connected to the album campaign.

In the same message, Malik thanked medical personnel involved in his care, including cardiologists, nurses and administrative staff. That reference led to online speculation about the nature of his condition, but no official diagnosis has been made public.

The health update came at the same time as the release of Konnakol, described in the report as Malik’s fifth studio album and a notable point in his solo career. The album has arrived ahead of what has been billed as his largest tour so far, with 31 shows planned across North America, South America and Europe, beginning in Manchester in May.

Hours after Malik’s post, Gigi Hadid, his former partner and the mother of their daughter Khai, shared a social media update of her own, though she did not mention his condition. She posted a series of images marking the start of her birthday celebrations and captioned them: "It’s my seassoonnnnnnn", including moments with her daughter.

The timing of Hadid’s post drew attention because it came soon after Malik’s announcement, although no public statement was issued about his health. Hadid and Malik ended their relationship in 2021 and have continued to co-parent their daughter. It also said Hadid is currently reported to be in a relationship with actor Bradley Cooper.

The latest disruption comes against the backdrop of earlier interruptions to Malik’s live appearances. He has previously spoken publicly about anxiety-related difficulties that led to the cancellation of major performances.

Despite uncertainty over his condition, Malik’s message conveyed appreciation and determination, indicating that he intends to return once he has recovered, while fans await further information on his health and the rescheduled event.
