KARACHI: Multan Sultans defeated Karachi Kings by 11 runs in a high-scoring Pakistan Super League 2026 match at the National Stadium on Sunday, handing the home side a fourth straight defeat.
Chasing 208, Karachi were bowled out for 196 in 19.4 overs. The result strengthened Multan’s push for a top-four finish, while Karachi’s difficult run in the tournament continued.
Multan post 207-7 after being sent in
Batting first, Multan Sultans made 207 for seven, with their innings built around brisk contributions from the top order and late runs in the closing overs.
Josh Philippe gave Multan early momentum with 44 off 23 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. Muhammad Awais Zafar added 36 from 27 deliveries as the pair put together an important stand to keep the scoring rate moving.
Captain Shan Masood then played a central role with 46 off 25 balls, striking three fours and three sixes. He was stumped off Moeen Ali in the 14th over, but Multan had already laid a solid platform by that stage.
Despite losing wickets in the middle overs, Multan continued to add runs through the innings. Mohammad Wasim Jr chipped in with seven off two balls, including a six, as the visitors moved past the 200-run mark.
For Karachi Kings, Khushdil Shah returned 3 for 35 in four overs. Moeen Ali took 2 for 30, while Adam Zampa claimed 1 for 37.
Karachi fall short in chase
Karachi began positively in reply, with Jason Roy making 16 off nine balls, including a six, before Arafat Minhas struck in the third over. Agha Salman was then bowled for two by Minhas, and Saad Baig made 21 off 15 before falling to Peter Siddle in the sixth over, leaving Karachi 47 for three.
Reeza Hendricks tried to rebuild the innings and top-scored with 49 off 32 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. He shared a 67-run partnership with Moeen Ali, which briefly revived Karachi’s chase.
Hendricks’ dismissal in the 13th over proved significant, with the required rate climbing further after his departure. Moeen Ali made 27 off 23 balls, but Karachi were unable to keep pace consistently.
The lower order offered resistance as Muhammad Abbas Afridi struck 34 off 16 balls, including two sixes, and Hasan Ali added 23 from 10 deliveries. Even so, Karachi could not get over the line as wickets fell at key moments.
Minhas leads Multan bowling effort
Arafat Minhas was the most effective Multan bowler, taking 3 for 32 in three overs and making early breakthroughs that put Karachi under pressure. Peter Siddle supported him with 2 for 28 in four overs.
Momin Qamar and Ashton Turner took one wicket each as Multan kept Karachi from building lasting momentum in the chase.
Multan’s combination of aggressive batting and timely bowling interventions ultimately proved enough to secure the win. The result kept them firmly in the playoff race, while Karachi remained on a four-match losing streak.
