Cleric or clubber? Mufti Abdul Qavi spotted at rave

Just when you thought the news cycle couldn't get any more bizarre, a video of religious cleric and media personality Mufti Abdul Qavi has gone viral— and once again, not for a religious sermon, but for another scandalous reason as this time he has appeared at a rave.

The footage, which is circulating under the hashtag #halalrave, shows Qavi in his traditional attire standing in the middle of a party where a DJ is blasting music and the atmosphere is anything but conservative. One caption making the rounds reads: “When Mufti approves your raves.”

Reactions online have ranged from disbelief to sarcasm. “Got Mufti at a rave before GTA 6,” one user joked. Another wrote, “Mufti is trying to cancel his Jannat visa.”

But beyond the humour, the videos have also reopened conversations around Qavi’s long history of controversies.

The cleric has frequently made headlines over the years — most notably in connection with Qandeel Baloch.

In 2016, Qavi appeared in widely circulated photos and videos with Qandeel, which drew intense media attention. Following the backlash, he publicly criticised her, calling her actions inappropriate and stating that she had “tarnished” his image.

Shortly after the controversy, Qandeel was tragically murdered by her brother in what was described as an “honour killing.” While her death was part of a larger and deeply rooted issue of gender-based violence, Qavi’s public statements at the time were widely debated, with many questioning the role of societal pressure and public shaming in the events leading up to her killing.

The resurfacing of his name now, in an entirely different context, has led some users to reference that past. “Qandeel Baloch was right about him,” one comment read, as others revisited old clips and statements.

"Ye to ghairat ke naam pe aaj tak qatal nhi hua," another comment read. While another social media user cautioned others, saying, "Don’t call him Mufti, he is fitna."

Qavi has also been linked to multiple other controversies over the years, including allegations and viral interactions with figures like Hareem Shah, further cementing his reputation as a recurring figure in headline-making moments.

It remains unclear when or where the footage was recorded. Still, that hasn’t stopped the internet from doing what it does best — turning it into a full-blown moment. Because when a figure known for religious commentary appears in a setting like this, the reactions were always going to be loud.
