Attock launches free inter-city bus service to ease transport costs

TAXILA: The district administration of Attock on Sunday launched a free inter-city transport service across seven routes, deploying a fleet of 22 buses to ease the burden of rising travel costs.

The initiative, inaugurated by Sheikh Aftab Ahmed at the General Bus Stand, comes amid increasing fuel prices linked to global tensions, particularly between the United States and Iran. Officials said the service aims to provide safe, comfortable, and cost-free travel to the public.

According to the plan, multiple routes have been covered, including Attock to Hassanabdal, Hazro, and Fatehjang, along with connecting routes such as Fatehjang to Pindigheb and Jand. Authorities said the targeted subsidy is designed to prevent fare hikes and control inflation driven by rising diesel costs.

Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza said the first phase includes 22 modern buses operating on key commercial routes, adding that strict monitoring mechanisms would be put in place to ensure service quality.

Officials noted that the move is expected to provide relief to low- and middle-income families, for whom daily transport expenses have become increasingly difficult to manage.
