SHC disposes of missing persons petitions after six individuals are traced

KARACHI: The constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court has disposed of a set of petitions concerning missing persons after police informed the court that six individuals had been traced and their whereabouts had been established.

During the hearing, police submitted a report stating that all six missing persons had been located. Based on that report, the court disposed of the petitions.

According to the police report placed before the court, Mohammad Asif and Samiullah had gone missing from the limits of Jamshed Town police station. Both had been traced.

In a separate matter, Namjeed, who had gone missing from the Rizvia Society area, has also returned home, police told the court.

The bench was further informed that Jehangzeb, who had gone missing from Shah Latif Town, had likewise returned home.

Police also reported details in the case of Reema, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The court was told that she had not been abducted, but had left her home of her own free will and later entered into a court marriage.

In another case, Musarrat, who had gone missing from the Korangi Industrial Area, was located at an Edhi Home, submitted before the court.

Respondents in the petitions

The petitions had named several officials and departments as respondents. These included the Inspector General of Sindh Police, the senior superintendents of police of East, Central and Malir districts, as well as Counter-Terrorism Department officials and others.

The court’s order came after police confirmed the recovery or return of all six individuals mentioned in the petitions. With those developments placed on record, the constitutional bench disposed of the cases.

The individuals referred to in the proceedings were Mohammad Asif, Samiullah, Namjeed, Jehangzeb, Reema and Musarrat. The police report presented each case separately, outlining the area from which each person had gone missing and the status later conveyed to the court.

In Reema’s case, the report specifically stated that no abduction had taken place. In Musarrat’s case, police said she had been found at an Edhi Home. For the remaining individuals, they had either been traced or had returned to their homes.

Following the submission of the report and the confirmation regarding the six persons, the Sindh High Court concluded the proceedings on the petitions.
