Police official killed in attack on Peshawar outskirts

PESHAWAR: A police official was martyred after being attacked by unidentified assailants in the Hassankhel subdivision on the outskirts of Peshawar on Friday night, police said.

According to police officials, the slain policeman was identified as Muqaddar Khan. They said he was taken away by unknown persons and his body was later recovered from the Hassankhel area.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the city police said the funeral prayers for the martyred official were offered at the Police Headquarters.

The funeral was attended by Capital City Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad, SSP Operations Farhan Khan, senior military and civil officials, and relatives of the deceased policeman, the statement said.

The incident took place in the Hassankhel subdivision, located on the outskirts of the provincial capital. Police said the assailants were unknown.

The official statement did not provide further details about the circumstances of the abduction or killing, but confirmed that the policeman had embraced martyrdom and that his funeral had been held at the Police Headquarters.

Separate killing in Mattani

In a separate incident on the same night, a resident was shot dead by unidentified persons in the Mattani area.

Residents said the deceased was 25-year-old Sohail Nawaz. They said his body was shifted to a hospital for an autopsy.

The two incidents were reported from areas on the outskirts of Peshawar on Friday night. Police and residents provided the details carried in the reports, including the identification of the victims and the locations where the incidents occurred.

The city police statement specifically referred to the funeral of Muqaddar Khan and listed the senior police, military and civil officials who attended the ceremony alongside his family members.

Authorities have identified the slain police official as Muqaddar Khan, while residents identified the second victim as Sohail Nawaz, 25. The latter’s body was taken to hospital for post-mortem examination, according to residents.

Both killings took place on Friday night, with one reported in Hassankhel and the other in Mattani, according to the details shared by police officials and local residents.
