‘More film than cricket’: Rossouw takes a swipe at Bollywood-backed cricket circus
Rilee Rossouw says the IPL feels like a “movie” with Bollywood glitz, while the PSL is more compact and fiercely competitive. He also notes PSL’s growing role in spotting international talent.

South African batter Rilee Rossouw has stirred conversation by comparing the glitz of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the intensity of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), saying each tournament brings something different to the table.
Speaking to media in Karachi on Saturday, Rossouw pointed out the contrast in structure and atmosphere. “IPL is a very long tournament, and Pakistan is much more compact where the competition is a lot more fierce,” he said.
He didn’t stop there, adding a sharper take on the IPL’s entertainment-heavy appeal. “The IPL obviously has the whole Bollywood behind it, so it’s a lot more of a movie than actual cricket — so both of them have their pros and cons,” he remarked.
Rossouw is currently featuring for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2026. In four outings so far, he has managed 79 runs, averaging 19.75 with a strike rate of 111.26.
His remarks come as the PSL continues to gain recognition for its role in identifying and elevating international talent. A number of players who impressed in the league — including Luke Wood, Tim Seifert, Kyle Jamieson, Jordan Cox, Ben Dwarshuis, Jason Holder and Finn Allen — were snapped up by IPL franchises for the 2026 season, strengthening the perception of PSL as a key scouting ground in global cricket.
The ongoing 11th edition of the PSL, running from March 26 to May 3, has also marked a first — with eight teams now competing for the title, expanding the league’s scale and competitiveness.
