A Rs6 billion children’s medical tower backed by Japan has formally moved forward at Children’s Complex Multan. The project includes a 65-bed ICU, modern diagnostics and is expected to be completed within three years.

MULTAN: A modern medical tower worth more than Rs6 billion is being developed at the Children’s Complex Multan with support from Japan, in a move aimed at strengthening child healthcare services in South Punjab.
The project formally advanced at a Consultant Signing Ceremony held at Children’s Hospital Multan under the supervision of Dean Dr Kashif Chishti. According to the details shared at the event, the initiative is part of a wider programme focused on improving child healthcare facilities across South Punjab.
Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Karim Khan attended the ceremony as chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddiq was present as guest of honour. Medical Superintendent Dr Kamran Asif, senior faculty members including Prof Waqas Imran and Prof Sohail Arshad, as well as doctors and nurses, also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kashif Chishti said the project, valued at over Rs6 billion, had effectively begun after the signing ceremony. He said a detailed survey would now be carried out, after which the structural design would be approved.
He said the equipment for the project would be procured from Japan and construction was expected to be completed within three years. He further said the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) would be upgraded to a 65-bed facility under the project.
The planned tower will include modern diagnostic services such as CT scan, ultrasound and a state-of-the-art laboratory. It will also be linked to the existing building through a bridge to provide integrated healthcare services.
Dr Chishti thanked Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood for their support for the project.
He said the new facility would serve not only children in Multan but also patients coming from across South Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other remote areas by improving access to advanced medical treatment.
The development is expected to expand treatment capacity at the Children’s Complex Multan and add upgraded critical care and diagnostic services for thousands of children from Multan and surrounding regions.
The ceremony marked the formal start of the next phase of the project, with survey and design work to proceed before construction moves ahead.
