Balochistan Assembly speaker seeks reports on lawmakers’ public issues

QUETTA: Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly retired Captain Abdul Khaliq Achakzai on Wednesday directed relevant government departments to submit reports on complaints raised by lawmakers during the provincial assembly session and inform the house about steps taken to address them.

During the sitting, several members of the assembly highlighted problems affecting people in their constituencies and called on the government to take action.

The speaker asked the Irrigation Department as well as the Industries & Crafts and Auqaf departments to furnish reports on the matters brought before the house. He also directed the inspector general of police to arrest the suspects involved in the Yaro incident.

According to the details shared in the assembly, the Yaro incident took place in the Pishin district area in March, when a young man, enraged after his marriage proposal was rejected, allegedly shot dead the girl he wanted to marry, her father and a cousin, while also injuring the girl’s mother.

Lawmakers raise constituency concerns

BNP Awami leader Mir Asadullah Baloch told the house that floods had destroyed crops in Panjgur and urged the chief minister to assess the losses and announce relief measures for farmers in the area.

ANP leader Zamarak Achakzai voiced concern over the damage caused by heavy rains in Qila Abdullah and suggested that all flood-hit areas be declared disaster-hit zones.

He also criticised the selection committee for not choosing Pishin-born cricketer Haseebullah for the Bangladesh tour. He told the assembly that the player had scored 2,441 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 45, while a Karachi player selected instead had an average of only 20 runs. He stressed that cricket should remain free of political influence.

Parliamentary Secretary Majeed Badini asked for the removal of more than 750 illegal connections in the Pat Feeder area of Nasirabad division.

MPA Ashok Kumar raised the issue of a Rs60,000 fee being charged by the Industries Department for obtaining a no-objection certificate to transport sugar from Karachi to Hub.

On that matter, the speaker directed the secretary of industries and commerce to submit a report to the assembly.

The proceedings reflected a range of concerns from law and order to flood damage, agriculture, public utilities and administrative charges, with the speaker formally seeking departmental responses on the issues placed before the house.
