KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and chose to field first against Hyderabad Kingsmen in the 15th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 at the National Bank Stadium on Wednesday.
The fixture marked the first meeting between Hyderabad Kingsmen and Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL, according to the match details.
After winning the toss, Zalmi decided to send Hyderabad Kingsmen in to bat in the Karachi contest. The match was scheduled as the 15th game of the ongoing PSL 11 season at the National Bank Stadium.
Hyderabad Kingsmen’s squad for the match includes Marnus Labuschagne as captain and Hassan Khan as vice-captain. The rest of the squad comprises Usman Khan, Akif Javed, Maaz Sadaqat, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Ali, Kusal Perera, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Shayan Jahangir, Glenn Maxwell, Hammad Azam, Riley Meredith, Sharjeel Khan, Asif Mehmood, Hunain Shah, Rizwan Mehmood, Saad Ali, Tayyab Arif, Maheesh Theekshana and Ahmed Hussain.
Peshawar Zalmi are being led by Babar Azam. Their squad includes Sufiyan Muqeem, Abdul Samad, Ali Raza, Aaron Hardie, Aamir Jamal, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Haris, Khalid Usman, Abdul Subhan, Tanzid Hasan, Michael Bracewell, Kusal Mendis, Iftikhar Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Kashif Ali, Shahnawaz Dahani, Farhan Yousuf, Brian Bennett, Mohammad Basit and Shoriful Islam.
First meeting in the tournament
The game is notable for being the first time Hyderabad Kingsmen and Peshawar Zalmi have come up against each other in the PSL.
Hyderabad Kingsmen entered the match under the captaincy of Labuschagne, with Hassan Khan named as his deputy. Peshawar Zalmi, meanwhile, took the field with Babar Azam as captain for the Karachi encounter.
The match was being played at the National Bank Stadium, one of the venues hosting PSL 11 fixtures. Wednesday’s contest added another chapter to the tournament schedule, with Zalmi opting to chase after calling correctly at the toss.
Both teams named sizeable squads featuring local and overseas players. Hyderabad Kingsmen’s line-up included players such as Glenn Maxwell, Kusal Perera, Riley Meredith and Maheesh Theekshana alongside domestic names including Sharjeel Khan, Saim Ayub and Hassan Khan. Peshawar Zalmi’s squad featured Babar Azam, Mohammad Haris, Iftikhar Ahmed, Aamir Jamal, Michael Bracewell, Kusal Mendis and Shahnawaz Dahani among others.
The toss decision meant Hyderabad Kingsmen were set to bat first, while Peshawar Zalmi began the match in the field in the PSL 11 meeting in Karachi.
