Celine Dion announces 10 Paris concerts in return to the stage

PARIS: Celine Dion has announced a return to live performance with a 10-show run in Paris, marking her comeback after stepping away from the stage because of a rare neurological disorder.

The singer shared the news on social media on Monday as part of a birthday announcement. According to the announcement, the concerts are scheduled for September and October.

In a video posted to her verified Instagram account, Dion said the concerts were a major personal milestone. 'This year, I'm getting the best birthday gift of my life,' she said. The singer, who turned 58 on Monday, also said she was 'feeling good' and 'strong,' and appeared dancing briefly in the video.

She also addressed her supporters directly, saying, 'I'm feeling excited, obviously a little nervous, but most of all, I'm grateful to all of you. I love you all and I'll see you soon!'

Speculation had grown in recent days

The announcement followed days of speculation that Dion was preparing to perform again. Last week, posters featuring titles of her songs began appearing across Paris, prompting reports that she could be returning to the stage.

Canadian outlet La Presse reported that the singer would lead a residency at Paris La Défense Arena, a venue with a capacity of 40,000. Dion also added to the anticipation by posting a series of photographs on her verified Instagram account showing moments from her time in Paris over the years.

The presale for tickets is due to begin on April 7.

Return follows health struggle

The newly announced concerts represent an important development in Dion’s return to public performance after a prolonged health battle. Her withdrawal from the spotlight came as she dealt privately with the condition before later speaking more openly about it in a 2024 documentary that gave fans a closer look at her experience.

In 2022, the Grammy-winning singer said she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome. At the time, she also announced that several dates on her European tour would be postponed.

The Paris concerts now mark her first announced series of performances since that diagnosis forced her away from regular live appearances.
