Rain-related incidents leave six dead in Swabi, DI Khan and Lower Dir

SWABI/DI KHAN/LOWER DIR: At least six people lost their lives and several others were injured in separate rain-related incidents in Swabi, Dera Ismail Khan and Lower Dir, according to rescue officials, police and local sources.

In Swabi district, a farmer and his sister died after the roof of their house caved in in a remote part of Razaar tehsil on Sunday. Rescue 1122 officials said the incident took place in the far-flung Saalo Banda area of Yar Hussain town.

A Rescue 1122 official said rescue workers pulled the affected family members from the rubble. He said the mud house had been weakened by heavy rainfall. According to the official, 12-year-old Ayan Khan died at the scene, while his 35-year-old sister Uzma Khan later died of her injuries at hospital.

Three other members of the same family were hurt in the collapse. They were identified as Noor Jehan, 61, Sadia Khan, 40, and Faizan, 10. The injured were taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

In Dera Ismail Khan district, a six-year-old girl was killed and three other people were injured when the roof of a house collapsed, officials and local sources said. The incident came as recent rains affected several villages in the district.

The areas reported to have been hit included Hathala, Madi, Mir Bazi and Takwara, where rainwater entered homes and streets, submerging a number of localities and disrupting routine life. The injured in the roof-collapse incident were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Residents said a sudden surge of water flooded houses and damaged standing crops, forcing a number of families to move into the open.

In another incident in Dera Ismail Khan, one person was killed and five others were injured when two containers collided on a rain-slick road near Daraban Khurd on Gomal University Road, police and rescue officials said.

The accident occurred in the Prova tehsil area on Saturday night after rainfall made the road dangerous. Rescue teams moved the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the crash also led to a major traffic jam on the road.

Separately, two people died in rain-related incidents in different parts of Lower Dir on Sunday.

In the first incident, a 69-year-old man, identified as Sarzamin Khan of Rabat, was killed when a wall collapsed in the Camp area. Rescue 1122 teams shifted the body to the District Headquarters Hospital in Timergara.

In another incident in Takoro village, a room in a house collapsed because of recent heavy rains, critically injuring 56-year-old Naimatullah. He was taken to Munda Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
