45 killed, 105 injured as rains batter Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Peshawar: At least 45 people have died and 105 others have been injured in rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since March 25, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
In its latest report issued on Sunday, the PDMA said the casualties occurred after heavy rainfall led to the collapse of roofs and walls in multiple districts of the province.
The authority said the dead included 23 children, 17 men and five women. Among the injured were 45 men, 16 women and 44 children.
The PDMA also reported damage to 442 houses. Of these, 382 sustained partial damage, while 60 were completely destroyed.
The affected districts named in the report were Bannu, Abbottabad, Mardan, Bajaur, Hangu, Mohmand, Kohat, North Waziristan, Peshawar, Khyber, Nowshera, Dera Ismail Khan, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Shangla, Battagram, Lower Kohistan, Mansehra, Torghar, Swat, Upper Dir, Charsadda, Buner, Malakand, Lower Dir, Orakzai, South Waziristan and Tank.
Relief operations underway
The PDMA said it is in contact with Rescue 1122, district administrations and other relevant institutions, and that relief work is continuing in the affected areas.
According to the authority, relief goods have already been sent to the impacted districts, while local administrations have been instructed to speed up assistance efforts and ensure immediate support for those affected.
Fresh rain spell forecast
The PDMA warned that another spell of rain is expected from April 6 to 9. It advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, especially to vulnerable tourist locations, and to follow official advisories.
The authority further said its Emergency Operations Centre remains fully operational and asked citizens to report any untoward incident or seek information through the toll-free helpline 1700.
The latest figures underline the scale of damage caused by the ongoing wet spell in the province, with casualties and property losses reported from a wide range of districts. The PDMA’s report said the deaths and injuries were linked to structural collapses caused by heavy rains, while response and relief measures were continuing through coordination between provincial authorities and local administrations.
