Textbook shortage affects female students at Danish School in Hafizabad

Hafizabad: Hundreds of female students at Danish School in Hafizabad are reportedly facing a shortage of free textbooks during the current academic session, creating concern over disruption to their studies.

Within the institution, the school, which is described as one of the district’s largest educational institutions, has around 1,800 enrolled students but has still not received government-issued textbooks. The delay has raised worries among parents and school authorities about the impact on classroom learning.

Reports indicate that the hold-up is allegedly connected to administrative lapses, procedural obstacles and possible favouritism by district education authorities, including the office of the CEO Education. Because of the missing books, students have been unable to keep up with their coursework, resulting in what has been described as significant academic loss.

Parents voiced strong concern over the situation, saying they are not in a position to buy expensive textbooks from the open market at a time of rising inflation. They said the government’s commitment to provide free educational material has not been met, adding to the financial strain on households already dealing with economic difficulties.

School sources said the institution fulfills the high standards set by the Punjab government, including merit-based admissions, modern infrastructure and advanced learning facilities such as computer and science laboratories. However, they said the non-availability of basic textbooks has created a serious gap in the educational process.

Allegations have also emerged that district education officials are giving preference to other schools despite the Danish School’s large student population. This perceived neglect has further deepened concern among both parents and the school administration.

Calls for immediate action

Parents, local residents and school authorities have urged senior officials in the education department to take immediate notice of the matter and ensure that textbooks are supplied without further delay so academic activities can continue smoothly.

They have also demanded a transparent inquiry into the reasons behind the delay in order to fix responsibility. They further called for strict action against those found responsible if negligence or misconduct is established, saying such steps are necessary to prevent similar problems in the future.

The issue has drawn attention because of the school’s size and status in the district, with concerns centring on how the continued absence of textbooks could affect students’ progress during the ongoing session.
