Meesha Shafi speaks out after court loss, shares emotional message

Singer and actor Meesha Shafi has broken her silence following the court verdict in her defamation case against Ali Zafar, choosing to respond not with a direct statement but through poetry and personal expression.

Her response has quickly drawn attention online, with many closely analysing the tone and meaning behind her posts. Instead of addressing the outcome head-on, Meesha shared a series of Instagram stories featuring Urdu poetry that reflected themes of pain, resilience, and self-reflection.

The verses she posted touched on accepting past suffering, navigating emotional turmoil, and carrying the weight of public scrutiny. At the same time, they hinted at holding onto inner strength despite darkness. In one of the stories, she wrote, “Yeh konsa nit-naya azaab hai?”, suggesting a sense of ongoing emotional strain.

She later followed up with a more personal note, explaining her decision to stay silent publicly and let her art speak instead. “I have decided I will not speak now; I would only use my craft to speak. It is far more rewarding. That was traumatising, and the trauma was real. It happened. I experienced it and this is my recovery work,” she said.

Meesha also reflected on how she coped mentally throughout the years-long legal battle, describing how she relied on inner dialogue to get through difficult moments. Alongside her own posts, she reshared messages of support from fellow artists, including music that echoed themes of strength, healing, and survival.

Her reaction comes after a sessions court ruled in favour of Ali Zafar in the high-profile defamation case, directing Meesha Shafi to pay Rs5 million in damages after concluding that the allegations could not be proven in court.

The case began in 2018 when Meesha publicly accused Ali Zafar of harassment, leading to a prolonged legal battle that remained in the spotlight for years. It sparked widespread debate across Pakistan about accountability, reputation, and the challenges women face when speaking out.

With her latest posts, Meesha Shafi appears to be shifting the conversation from legal arguments to personal healing, using poetry and art as a way to process what she describes as a deeply traumatic experience.
