Wandering ‘Churail’ mystery resolves

PESHAWAR: Rumours of a churail roaming graveyards in Peshawar have been put to rest after police confirmed that the figure frightening residents was actually a 13-year-old girl who had gone missing from her home.

In recent days, fear spread across the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as claims circulated about a female ghost wandering through cemeteries. Social media posts added to the panic, with residents near Wazir Bagh reporting sightings of what they described as shishka or pichal peri in a nearby graveyard.

As the stories gained traction, some locals armed themselves and went out in search of the supposed apparition. Similar rumours had been circulating for months, especially around Guldara Chowk, deepening anxiety and superstition in the area.

When residents finally caught the figure, they discovered it was not a ghost but a young girl. She was not harmed and was later handed over to police.

Authorities said the girl had been missing for several days and is mentally unwell. She has now been safely reunited with her parents.

According to police, her late-night wandering had alarmed residents, who mistook her for a ghost. The confusion was then amplified by social media rumours before the matter was properly investigated and resolved.
