Shan’s masala cola range has everyone asking if it’s real or an April Fools’ joke
Shan has launched a range of masala-infused cola drinks inspired by South Asian flavors, sparking debate on social media about its authenticity. Are these drinks real or just an elaborate joke?

LAHORE: Shan, the brand known for its spices and cooking products, has taken a bold turn by announcing a range of masala-infused cola drinks that sound almost too wild to be true. The line includes flavours inspired by iconic South Asian dishes, from chaat masala to butter chicken and even pani puri. Fans of tangy, spicy, and creamy tastes can apparently get all of that in a fizzy drink now, if they dare.
While spicing up soft drinks isn’t entirely unheard of, Shan has gone all in, trying to recreate familiar flavours in a way that feels both nostalgic and completely new. The idea is to offer a taste experience that’s recognizable but also surprising, and the brand is leaning fully into the experimental side of it.
Unsurprisingly, social media has exploded with reactions. Some users are excited, curious to try chaat masala or pani puri colas, while others are left scratching their heads at the thought of drinking butter chicken.
The unusual concept has also sparked confusion over whether this is a real launch or just an April Fools’ prank, with comments like, “Are they MAD?? MASALA COLA, which means now people can drink biryani instead of eating” and “This was supposed to be April 1st post” trending online.
Shan says the drinks will be available soon at select retailers in the US and Canada, but the announcement hasn’t cleared up whether it’s serious marketing or just a viral stunt. Either way, it has people talking, posting, and debating whether masala cola is the future of fizzy drinks or the most elaborate prank yet.
