Fakhar Zaman handed two-match suspension in PSL 11 over code breach

The Pakistan Cricket Board has suspended Fakhar Zaman for two matches in the ongoing Pakistan Super League season after finding him guilty of a Level 3 breach of the Code of Conduct.

The incident occurred during Lahore Qalandars’ match against Karachi Kings at Gaddafi Stadium on March 29, when a five-run penalty was imposed on Lahore and the ball was ordered to be changed before the final over of Karachi’s innings.

The charge was brought by on-field umpires Shahid Saikat and Faisal Khan Aafreedi, along with TV umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Tariq Rasheed, while the player denied the allegations and challenged them during a disciplinary hearing.

The hearing was conducted by match referee Roshan Mahanama, who reviewed the evidence and heard submissions from the player, with Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and team officials also present.

Following the proceedings, the referee ruled that the batter had committed an offence under Article 2.14 of the PSL Code of Conduct, which relates to altering the condition of the ball.

Under the rules, a first-time Level 3 offence carries a suspension ranging from one to two matches, and the player has been handed a two-match ban, ruling him out of upcoming fixtures against Multan Sultans and Islamabad United.

The decision may be appealed within 48 hours before the PSL Technical Committee.
