Doctors face backlash after viral video hints at race during childbirth surgeries

LAHORE: A wave of criticism has emerged following the circulation of a video allegedly showing doctors engaged in a speed-based challenge during caesarean section procedures at Lady Willingdon Hospital in Lahore. The incident has prompted authorities in Punjab to begin an investigation.

According to reports, two surgical teams led by Dr Tayyaba and Dr Ayesha were performing separate C-section operations in the same operating theatre. During the procedures, individuals present in the room reportedly recorded footage, despite strict rules that prohibit filming in such sensitive medical settings.

The video, which quickly spread across social media, appears to include commentary suggesting both teams were attempting to complete their surgeries faster than the other. It is further implied that a senior doctor, identified as Dr Isa, would determine the result of this supposed contest.

Voices in the recording can be heard cheering for the respective teams, with some staff members openly supporting one doctor over the other. The tone captured in the footage gives an impression of competition rather than a standard medical environment, raising concerns about professional conduct and patient safety.

Sources indicate the incident occurred a day before the video became public. It is also believed that members of the medical staff themselves recorded the footage, violating hospital policies that strictly forbid such actions inside operating theatres.
