China calls for urgent peace talks as Iran conflict escalates
China has called for urgent peace talks as the Iran conflict escalates, emphasizing the need for diplomacy to prevent further casualties and regional instability.

BEIJING: China on Thursday urged all parties involved in the escalating Iran conflict to move in the same direction and create conditions for “meaningful and sincere” peace negotiations, as global concerns over the war continue to mount.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing was ready to play a constructive role in facilitating dialogue and de-escalation efforts.
He stressed that the prolonged conflict serves no one’s interest, warning that continued hostilities would only result in greater casualties, economic losses, and wider regional instability. The spillover effects, he noted, could impact global energy markets and security dynamics far beyond the immediate conflict zone.
“The most urgent task now is to actively promote peace talks,” Lin said, urging all sides to seize the current window of opportunity to bring the fighting to an end through diplomacy.
China reiterated its support for all initiatives aimed at reducing tensions, signalling its willingness to work with the international community to help stabilise the situation and prevent further escalation.
