Families of police martyrs being treated as part of Punjab Police family: IGP

• Over 47,000 personnel deployed for 29,000 Eid congregations; 10,000 in Lahore alone

 LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem on Sunday reiterated that the families of police martyrs are an integral part of the department’s own family, assuring that all possible resources are being mobilized for their welfare and vowing that they will never be left alone in any circumstance.

IG Police Abdul Kareem made the remarks during his visit to Qurban Lines, where he met the mother and family members of martyred DIG Captain (R) Syed Ahmad Mubeen, paying rich tribute to the officer’s dedication and ultimate sacrifice, according to a Punjab Police statement.

He later visited Daroghawala to meet the families of constable brothers Ghulam Murtaza and Ali Raza, who lost their lives in the Arfa Karim Tower suicide attack, assuring them of full departmental support and solidarity.

Earlier, the IG Punjab offered Eidul Fitr prayers at District Police Lines, Qila Gujjar Singh, joined by CCPO Lahore Additional IG Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Additional IG CTD Waseem Sial, Additional IG Raja Riffat Mukhtar, Additional IG Special Branch Imran Ahmar, DIGs Zeeshan Raza, Faisal Kamran, Imran Kishwar, Inaam Waheed, along with senior officers, retired personnel, and serving staff.

Special supplications were offered for the country’s development, security, and prosperity. The IG Punjab also laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and recited Fateha for the departed souls.

High-level security review and directives

Earlier, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem chaired a key meeting at the Central Police Office to review security arrangements for Chand Raat, Eidul Fitr, Pakistan Day, and Jumu’atul Wida. DIG Operations Lahore and RPOs briefed the meeting on security situations in their respective areas.

The IG directed that security across Punjab remain on high alert during all key occasions, with additional personnel deployed at places of worship, sensitive installations, and public locations. He emphasized close coordination with Special Branch, CTD, and other agencies to further strengthen security planning.

He instructed heightened protection for police installations, minority communities, and foreign and Chinese nationals, strict checking of tenants and hotels, and vigilant monitoring at inter-provincial checkpoints. Search and combing operations around mosques, imambargahs, and sensitive areas were to continue, supplemented by CCTV monitoring, plainclothes personnel, commandos, and snipers.

Massive deployment for Chand Raat, Eid congregations

According to Punjab Police, over 17,000 personnel were deployed across the province on Chand Raat, while more than 47,000 officers and staff were on duty for over 29,000 Eidul Fitr congregations. In Lahore alone, 10,000 personnel were deployed.

For Jumu’atul Wida, more than 83,000 police officers, personnel, and community volunteers were deployed to secure over 32,500 mosques, imambargahs, and other places of worship across Punjab.

The IG made it clear that one-wheeling, aerial firing, hooliganism, and kite flying would not be tolerated during Chand Raat and Eid. Additional traffic wardens were deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow.

He also directed that Dolphin Squad, PRU, and Elite Force continue effective patrolling at mosques, markets, and other key locations, with all officers personally supervising security arrangements.

Eid greetings and commitment

IG Punjab Abdul Kareem extended Eidul Fitr greetings to citizens and police officers, reaffirming the department’s commitment to maintaining a peaceful and secure environment across the province.
